Cantilever gate hardware
Cantilever gates are sliding gates without the ground track.
The advantage is being independant of the ground it crosses, so are ideal for sloping drives, rough surfaces, or roads used by heavy or tracked vehicles. The bearings are protected inside their track, so remain dry and lubricated. A well balanced gate slides on a finger tip, so automation is lighter and safer.
Gates often 50% longer than the opening so are expensive. Bearings need to be rated 3-4 times higher than a sliding gate, and are vulnerable to side force damage when the gate is part opened.
Tracked gate hardware
Tracked gates are the most efficient perimenter protection. A sliding gate cannot be smashed open as easily as a swing gate.
Automation is straight forward and cheap compared with a swing gate. It only requires a single motor, and the control panel comes pre-installed in the one convenient package.
The goundworks are require a straight level track twice whose length is twice the opening. Galvanised steel track is usually set in concrete. This might be a job for a professional groundworker.
Swing gate hardware
Swing gate hardware for automated gates is essentially their hinge sets.
Gates with underground motors only need a top hinge, but in an effort to reduce pinch hazards, these hinges need to be embedded the gate stile. Timber gate hinges follow traditional patterns. There are also hinge styles for aluminium and steel gates.
