Gates with underground motors need the top hinge to align with the motor pinion. Adjustable steel hinges can be welded to the back of the stile, or journal hinges welded into the gate stile.
Timber hinges
Timber gate hinges following traditional patterns are bolted through the gate frame. They can be fixed to steel posts, but mostly to matching timber posts.
